Speak in useful chunks
Build a message using reusable phrases.
Learn a word together with useful surrounding words. Practise I am interested in…, I would like to…, and Could you help me with… Add a topic, action, or task: I am interested in painting. I would like to visit the museum.
Watch what follows each phrase. Interested in can take a noun or an -ing form such as reading; would like to takes a base verb such as read. Do not insert an unchanged word into every pattern.
Choose three phrases relevant to your life and create two situations for each. Cover the sentences and express the ideas again later. Aim to adapt the phrase to meaning, not merely recite quickly.
Make your understanding visible
Complete I am interested in… and I would like to… using read.
Compare with a reference response
I am interested in reading about history. I would like to read this article. Use reading in the first pattern and read in the second, then change the topic.
